WHY IT'S NOT ADVISABLE TO HAVE A FIXED VIEW OF SOMEONE ELSE'S STYLE?
STYLE AT A GIVEN TIME DOES NOT REFLECT THE ENTIRETY
Even prominent fashion designers or fashion houses go through a lot of decades of development before they can create "fashion legacies" for eternity. Similarly, each individual's style varies with time, matching their thoughts and experiences during that time. If they do not discover their own style, how will they mature enough to understand what they truly like?
IN DESIGN, THE END PRODUCT CAN NOT REPRESENT THE ENTIRE PROCESS
Sometimes, the end result may not meet our expectations, which is quite normal. What's important is what you learned through the process. For example, I am not too fond of my past design projects, but through those semesters, I learned considerable weaving techniques, fabric slashing, shredded jeans, and got to understand the structures of various fabrics.
"LAUGH AT SOMEONE TODAY, AND TOMORROW THEY'LL LAUGH AT YOU"
Everyone has the right to make their own judgments and decide whether or not someone's style matches their liking. However, it is necessary to keep an objective approach instead of using harsh words. I always believe that when we don't like a particular style, there will be other people who don't like our style too, or dislike our designs. Being modest and avoiding paying too much attention to others helps us maintain our freedom to be creative.
EACH DESIGNER HAS THEIR OWN CLIENTELE
Sometimes, we may not resonate well with the style of our friends or a brand, or a fashion designer. But that does not mean they will not do well. The fashion industry is full of colors, and everyone will have their niche to be creative in. If it's not us, then there will always be someone else who likes their style. As long as they are successful through their own efforts and luck, that is something to celebrate, right?
AN OPEN-MINDED PERSPECTIVE HELPS TO IMPROVE NETWORKING
Networking is very crucial in the fashion industry. People from different styles, with experiences and expertise in the field, can support each other very well. One does not necessarily need to have the same vibe or style, just to be friends. They may be very different from us but there is always something to learn from them. Therefore, appearance, dressing style or some pictures on social media are not enough to evaluate a person working in fashion completely.
